You may have already completed the purchase of you new home or you already settled to move to another rental apartment/house, but to start off the moving process you will need packing cases and other packing materials. Please bear in mind that poor quality cases will often break and collapse when stacked, possibly damaging the contents or lengthening the period of your move because of the need to repack.
We recommend the following packing guidelines:
* Do not fill boxes to their maximum capacity and do not obstruct the hand holds.
* Use smaller size boxes for books and heavier items.
* Fragile items should be well protected with bubble wrap or paper.
* Try to pack room by room and label cases clearly; this will help you to quickly and efficiently unpack and locate your belongings in your new home.
* Dismantle self-assembly furniture, unless we have agreed to do this for you.
* Remove any fixtures and fittings you are taking with you.
* Disconnect any light fittings you are taking with you.
Clothing – Hanging clothing should be packed in wardrobe boxes. Folded clothing should be packed in medium-sized boxes.
Shoes should be left in their boxes whenever possible or packed in small boxes.
Draperies/Curtains – Wardrobe cartons are excellent for moving curtains and drapes. These items can also be folded and packed in large boxes.
Mirrors/Paintings/Pictures/Glass tabletops – These items should be wrapped in double layer of bubble wrap or corrugated carton.
Dishes/Plates– Each item should be wrapped individually in packing paper. Then gather and bundle approximately three to six wrapped plates into one unit by wrapping in a bubble wrap.
Bowls – Same as with plates, wrap each bowl individually. Then to protect the bowls, nest two or three together and wrap as one bundle.
Glassware – Each piece should be individually wrapped in packing paper and bubble wrap. All fragile items should be packed in a separate carton then packed into a larger carton for added protection.
Glasses/Cups/Mugs – Each item should be wrapped individually and packed with rims down. Cup and mug handles should be cushioned with packing paper. Separate each layer with crumpled paper for added protection.
Lamps/Shades – Always disassemble the lampshade from the base. Wrap the lamp shade and the base in packing paper. Select the carton size closest to the size of the shade and pack only one shade per box. Use loose packing material to cushion the shade.
Small Electronics/Clocks/Small Appliances – Whenever available, manufacturer’s packing is the best way to move electronics goods. If using other packaging, these items should be wrapped well and placed into a large or medium carton.
Books – Pack books into smaller boxes and avoid overfilling.
Food/Pantry Items – All dry foods can be packed into medium-sized cartons after taping any and all openings and closing all lids.
Refrigerators – Empty all contents and secure all shelving in place or remove and pack. The electronic cable should be taped to the back of the unit.
Access for the removal vehicle: you will need to think about how the vehicle can access your current and future property, to advise your neighbours that the vehicle will be parking outside your houses, and get any necessary permits.
If possible, it is best to keep all the packed cases together in one space where they will not block doors and windows that will be used for access.
To ensure that everything goes as planned with the removal team, it is important that you are present on moving day. Check that you have not left any items behind you.
BOOK for our moving service! We will be very glad to be at your service! ^_^
