How To Clean Your Cutting Board Effectively

Bleaching is a very well known method to deep clean and sanitize other household items but you probably never heard of bleaching your wood and plastic cutting board. To disinfect your cutting board, use a fresh solution of 1 teaspoon of unscented liquid chlorine bleach per litre of water. 

Flood the surface with the bleach solution and allow it to soak for several minutes. Rinse thoroughly with hot water and air dry or pat dry with clean paper towels. Do note this method is only suitable for wood and plastic cutting boards, do wear protective gear like a mask and gloves when bleaching to prevent the bleach from coming in contact with your skin.

 

3. Vinegar 

 

 

For those who prefer a more organic approach using chemical-free products, here are two more methods you can try out. Vinegar’s acidity is what makes it such a good cleaner to clean out underlying bacteria.

To clean your cutting board, mix one-part white vinegar to four parts water and let your cutting board soak in the solution for a few minutes. After a few minutes of soaking, rinse it off and pat the cutting board dry.

 

4. Lemon and salt

 

 

When life gives you lemons, you pair it with some salt to remove bacteria and germs on your cutting board. Sprinkle salt across the cutting board generously, then slice the lemon in half and you’re ready to go. Use the flat side of the lemon half and give the cutting board a good scrubbing.


After you’re done scrubbing, sit back and let it sit for 5 minutes then rinse the cutting board with a sponge and now you have a germ-free cutting board.
